Since there are a lot of single moms out there, I knew I wanted to write the most comprehensive and helpful post out there on single mom jobs. I assumed I would research the best jobs for single moms out there, and give my take on it from a removed perspective. Well now I am a single mom, and this post is even closer to my heart.

I know how busy we are as single moms.

When you’re looking for a job as a single mom, it can be essential to find something with flexible hours.

If you are a single parent, you are the one to pick up the kids after school or after daycare. You have to have a job that works with that.

If we have to stay home with a sick kid, we need a job that understands the priorities of a single mom and that our kids always come first.

Single mom jobs as a customer service representative could be a good fit IF your kids are in school already.

If you have babies, toddlers, or preschoolers that are home with you, this won’t be the best fit for your life as a single mom.

For these jobs, you’ll have to be available on the phone or via chat and won’t be able to be interrupted by a baby or child needing you.

But if your kids are already in school, an online customer service job could be a relatively easy job to get, especially if you don’t have a degree, and don’t want to upgrade skills with a course.

Generally these jobs will pay less than most others on this list of single mom jobs, sometimes starting at minimum wage or just above.

2. Single Mom Jobs as a Virtual Assistant

Becoming a virtual assistant can be a great career choice for single moms who are organized, detail-oriented, and enjoy helping others. This is basically remote work as an administrative assistant.

You will do a variety of administrative tasks and can often set your own hours.

11. Instacart Shopper

If you have little kids still at home (not in school yet), this single mom job won’t work for you. But if your kids are in school, an easy way to make money as a single mom is to become an Instacart shopper.

Another similar option is working for Doordash.

You can drive around doing deliveries while your kids are in school, or shop in grocery stores for online customers.

It’s very flexible and you set when you work.

Blogging is my favorite of the single mom jobs, from personal experience.

I have also sold books on Amazon, and worked as a search engine evaluator, and blogging is by far my favorite online job for moms.

It’s creative, fun, flexible, and you can make lots of money.

I make thousands per month as a blogger.

Blogging is not a get-rich-quick mom job though. It’s hard work, you need to be persistent, and you have to know what you’re doing.

I don’t, so I’d hire you to clean my place.

17. Pet-Sitting Services

Pet sitting is one of the easiest single mom jobs.

You can take care of other people’s pets, while you are caring for your own kids.

You can also easily bundle this side hustle with another mom job.

If you love pets, you can offer to walk dogs and/or take in people’s pets during the day while they are at work, or for a longer stay when they are away on a vacation.

As a single mom interested in a career as an event planner, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Event planning can be a demanding job with long hours, so it’s important to find a job that offers flexibility and work-life balance.

Here are some potential single mom job options:

Freelance event planner:

Freelancing as an event planner allows you to have complete control over your schedule and the types of events you work on.

You can work with clients who understand your schedule limitations and work around them.

You can set your rates, choose the events you want to work on, and work as much or as little as you want.

In-house event planner for a company:

Many companies have in-house event planners to handle their corporate events, product launches, and other events.

These jobs can offer more stable income and benefits, but may also come with more rigid schedules.

However, you might be able to negotiate flexible working arrangements with your employer.

Wedding planner:

As a single mom, working as a wedding planner can be a good fit because weddings are usually held on weekends, when you may have more free time.

Whatever job you choose, it’s important to be clear with your clients or employer about your scheduling needs and limitations as a single mom.

I have coached a couple of single moms who with my help grew their freelance photography businesses.

They were able to make a good income as a photographer while working part-time hours.

The average freelance photographer salary in the U.S. is $28/hour (reference).

You can specialize in wedding photography, newborn photography, couples, family, pets, boudoir, etc.

Life coaching is a career that offers flexibility and the ability to work from home, which can be a good fit for single mothers.

Here are a few different life coaching job options for single moms:

Private life coach:

As a private life coach, you can work with clients one-on-one to help them achieve their personal and professional goals.

You can set your own schedule and work from home. You can also choose to specialize in a specific area, such as career coaching or relationship coaching.

Corporate life coach:

Many companies hire life coaches to help their employees develop skills and reach their potential.

As a corporate life coach, you can work with employees on leadership development, communication skills, and goal setting.

This type of job can offer a stable income and benefits, but may require more rigid schedules.

Non-profit life coach:

Non-profits often hire life coaches to work with their clients, such as disadvantaged youth or individuals in need of career coaching.

This type of job can offer a sense of purpose and fulfillment, while still providing a stable income.

Online life coach:

With the rise of online coaching, you can work with clients from all over the world from the comfort of your own home.
