What Is Appen Work from Home?

If you have been looking for an online job, you might have come across Appen.

Appen has been around for over two decades, and hires remote workers throughout the U.S., and from dozens of other countries all over the world. It has over 350 full-time employees and more than 1 million casual remote workers (!).

The tasks you can do for Appen working from home include things like search engine evaluation, transcription, speech recognition, mapping, social media rating, language recognition, image and video data gathering and rating, and more.

Is Appen Work from Home Legit?

Yep, Appen work from home is legit. I know first-hand as I worked remotely for Appen for two years.

A few years ago when I started looking into online jobs, I was suspicious of everything. I assumed almost all work-from-home jobs were scams, and I didn’t know which companies could be trusted.

After doing my best research, I decided to take a leap.

I tried mystery shopping, getting paid to search the web, and I had a business selling books on Amazon.

While there are tons of scams out there, all the places I worked for were legit. Part of the reason I started this blog was to share what I learned and offer legitimate and non-scammy work-from-home options to moms.

Appen work from home is one of those options and is legitimate.

Is Working for Appen Worth It?

Depends on what you’re looking for in a job.

If you’re looking for guaranteed full-time hours every week, then working for Appen isn’t worth it. Your schedule can be all over the place. Some months there is a ton of work, and other months much less. You’re not in control of how much work comes down your pipeline.

If you need a high degree of predictability in your job, working for Appen isn’t worth it. You won’t be able to count on a consistent income every month.

For me, I did find working for Appen worth it, for a few reasons.

First, I loved the flexibility of setting my own hours. I fully was able to determine my schedule, and I worked around my baby’s nap time. To have a quiet, non-phone job that I could work from home while my baby was sleeping, well that was pretty perfect for me.

I also liked Appen work from home because I hate being micromanaged. I am good at motivating myself, and I really liked how little answering to a boss there is with Appen.

Appen work is interesting and varied, and I liked getting paid to learn new things.

Is Working with Appen Safe?

Yes, working with Appen is safe. You always have to use your own judgement for decisions, and especially those that involve online jobs. There are scammers that pretend to be hiring managers from legitimate companies.

My firm rule is if something online seems too good to be true, it probably is; keep looking.

But Appen itself is a legitimate company, working with Appen is safe, they paid be regularly when expected, and there were no hiccups when I worked for them.

If you are looking for Appen payment proof to give you that extra reassurance that Appen work from home is legit, here is one of my payments.

This Appen paycheck was from January 2020 (oh those simpler times before we knew what was coming in February 2020…). I was working from home for Appen very part-time at this point. Around this time I started my blog, discovered how much I love blogging, and was starting to make money blogging.

I left Appen work from home shortly after this paycheck.

If Appen Work from Home is So Great, Why Aren’t You Working There Anymore?

I get this question a lot.

And it’s a fair one.

If I really liked Appen work from home, why did I stop working for Appen?

Well I liked it enough to work there for two whole years. Other side hustles I dabbled in like mystery shopping, I didn’t stay nearly that long.

In the last few months of working at Appen, I had started this blog. What had initially started as a creative outlet grew to this passion and something I could see myself doing well into the future.

With a toddler to look after and a job outside the home, I had very limited hours for a side hustle. I started to see that I could make money blogging and I wanted to go all in (well, all in as a side hustle!)

I stopped working for Appen and used that time to write and grow my blog.

Does appen ask you to deposit any money before you can start work with them??

No definitely not! You send them invoices (through their system) for time worked, and you get paid. Simple and non-shady. If someone is saying they’ll do it otherwise, it is likely a scam.

I just (today!) signed up to ‘work for them!’ I was given the impression that I would be paid $20/hr for the first week of training, and $25/hr after that. Am I understanding you correctly, that you do ‘projects’ for them, and they pay you based on the number of projects you did?

Hey congrats! That’s exciting! I worked for Appen a couple years ago and they paid differently then. After getting accepted to work for Appen in general, we would then apply to specific projects. Those we could get accepted or rejected on. We kept track of the time we worked to the minute, and got paid by the minute. I would love to hear back if you do get an hourly rate when you find out.
