1. Freelance writing.
This is one of those dream stay at home mom jobs for lots of women. I was interested in hearing more from a freelance writing mama, exactly how this works and how she balances everything, so I reached out to Lisa Tanner. Lisa is a successful freelance writer and virtual assistant and gives killer tips on freelancing from home. Oh and p.s. this busy mama also homeschools her nine kids (!) Read my interview with Lisa here.

In this info-packed eBook, you will learn all about one of the easiest ways to get started as a freelance writer by a full-time freelance writer. This is an actionable book that will show you exactly how to get freelance writing jobs.
2. Teach classes online.
I recently learned about Outschool, a platform for teaching kids online (often homeschooled kids). You don’t need a degree to apply to be a teacher. You need to be a resident of the U.S. or Canada and have an area of expertise that you could teach a class in (from video game design, to dinosaurs, to photography, and cooking classes, and so much more). I’m still learning about this myself but if you’d like to check it out, there’s an intro video here.
I had a business selling used books on Amazon. The ONE thing I wish I knew about before I started was this course: Amazon Boot Camp by The Selling Family. They are super successful Amazon sellers, and will teach you how to make a great income selling on Amazon. Jessica is a great writer and teacher and she makes it easy to follow her blueprint. Plus they just seem like an all-around nice family!
4. Freelance proofreader.
If you’re a grammar nerd and would love to get paid to read, check out Caitlin’s free workshop on how to get started as a freelance proofreader.
You can also read my interview with Caitlin all about how to become a proofreader.
5. Search engine evaluator jobs.
6. Legitimate mystery shopping jobs.
7. Teach English from home.
If you love kids, this would be a great work-from-home opportunity for you. You get paid well to teach English to kids from the comfort of your home. You can sign up to teach English from home here.
If you love cuddling dogs or cats, you can make money petsitting through Rover. The pet can stay with you while their owner is away, and you would care for them, feed them, and walk them. And get paid! It’s pretty sweet.
9. Work for a call center.
If you are able to have some uninterrupted time during the day before the kids are up, or after they go to bed, Liveops could be a great stay at home mom job idea for you. Liveops is a cloud-based call center, which means it is a call center where the workers are all remote. You can answer calls in your bunny slippers, and they offer flexible, part-time hours (or full-time if that’s what you’re looking for).
10. Test websites.
You can get paid to be a website usability tester. This is a fun, online side gig where you are paid for your opinions on the function and user-friendliness of different websites. Check out more about testing websites here.
11. Get paid to take surveys.
My favorite (and legit!) site for getting paid to take surveys is Swagbucks. Swagbucks will pay you to take surveys in your spare time on your phone, and you can even get paid to watch videos. With the videos, you don’t have to be watching intently either; you can have them running in the background while you’re washing the dishes, etc. It’s really easy. You can sign up here for Swagbucks.
Blogging is NOT one of those get rich quick side jobs for stay at home moms, but if you put in the work and the time, it has great income potential. It’s also creative, and fun, and flexible. If this is for you, you can learn how to start a blog in 15 minutes here.
13. Sell printables.
This single mom went from homeless to millionaire by selling printables that she designed. It’s a pretty incredible story and I almost didn’t believe it when I read about Sarah Titus years ago, but it’s true and really amazing. Designing printables can be a fun craft job for stay at home moms, and selling printables would be a type of passive income once you have everything set up.
14. Rent out a room.
If you have a spare room or basement suite in your house, rent it out through AirBnB. Have your guests help you pay down your own mortgage!
15. Craft jobs for stay at home moms.
Sell on Etsy! If you’re a crafty mama, you can set up an Etsy shop and sell your wares. If you paint, knit, make jewelry, forge iron (I was browsing forged iron pieces as a gift for my husband!), you can consider turning your hobby into a side gig.
16. Home daycare.
Are you someone who loves the little kid stage? You could start a home daycare and earn money looking after one or two other kids in your home. If your own (kid)s are in school already you could take in three or four kids. If your kids are not in school yet, you can get paid to stay home with them, and give them little friends to socialize with at the same time!
17. Teach music.
If you know how to play an instrument, start a side hustle teaching others how to play the guitar, piano, cello, sing, whatever! Advertise in community centers, libraries, coffee shops, on Facebook, etc.
18. Sell services on Fiverr.
When you start on on Fiverr you probably will be charging at the lower end, but as your experience builds, you can charge much more. There are even people that make 6 figures selling on Fiverr!
19. Become a virtual assistant.
Help small businesses with emails, social media, graphics, different online tasks. Offer tiered management packages for different monthly fees.
20. Write an eBook.
You know that great idea for a book you’ve had for years? Do it! Write your book. Sell it on Amazon. It’s easier than ever to become a self-published author.
