1. Work-from-Home Side Jobs as a Virtual Assistant
A V.A. or Virtual Assistant is quickly becoming one of the most popular work-from-home side jobs.
A V.A. takes the place in the online world of what would have been an office manager, communications manager, receptionist, and other in-person jobs.
You can be a general V.A. or niche down and offer specific V.A. services.
Some Virtual Assistants specialize in Pinterest, others in email campaigns, some in blogging, some in editing, social media management, you get the idea.
Figure out what your strengths are and put those together in a package to offer future clients.
There are two ways to offer services and get paid as a work-from-home virtual assistant:
- Hourly rate
- Monthly rate
If you choose the monthly rate method, you could offer different tiers of packages (bronze, silver, gold, for example). Each level up would have additional services included for an increased rate.
The beauty of being a virtual assistant as a work-from-home side job is that you get to set your hours.
Work when your kids are at school
When your baby is napping.
At the end of the day after the kids are asleep, etc.
As long as you get things done on time – and better yet, ahead of time – you can choose when you want to work this flexible side job.

3. Legitimate Work-from-Home Side Jobs as a Search Engine Evaluator
Search engine evaluators are also called search engine raters.
The main company that hires search engine evaluators is Appen.
There are a slew of other legitimate work-from-home side jobs at Appen. They do a lot of work with AI, voice recognition, mapping, translations, and more.
Many of the work-from-home jobs at Appen don’t require experience.
I worked for Appen remotely for 2 years while my daughter was still napping (those were the days – ha!)
It wasn’t super easy to start working for them at the time – you had to take tests and most people didn’t pass.
It’s different now, and there are work-from-home jobs with Appen that are much easier to get than that.
Go here to read my honest Appen review.
4. Work-from-Home Side Jobs as a Freelance Writer
If you have always wanted to be a writer but don’t have a degree in English, don’t sweat it, and don’t hold yourself back.
Most writers out there don’t have degrees (though of course that can help in certain cases).
An interesting place you can get work-from-home side jobs as a freelance writer is Textbroker.
You offer your services for a certain rate per word, and people looking for freelance writers can browse and hopefully pick you. When you’re starting out, you should charge a lower rate until you build up a small portfolio, and then raise your rates.
It can be easier to stand out as a freelance writer if you specialize in a couple of different topics. Pick a couple of areas you can write about easily, and highlight those on your profile. Also include why you’re qualified to write about those topics. This doesn’t have to mean a degree, etc. but real life experience is great.
You can also start a profile on Fiverr and offer freelance writing services.
For a great course on freelance writing – including how to get writing work-from-home jobs – check out this course. Especially, if you’re a beginner, I’d really recommend it to give you the confidence on how to get writing jobs, where, and how much to charge.

11. Sell Books on Amazon
One of the best Amazon side jobs is selling used books.
For beginners, it’s one of the easier products to source using retail arbitrage.
Retail arbitrage simply means going into stores like Target, Walmart, or thrift stores, buying up books for the cheap, and reselling them on Amazon.
If you use Amazon FBA, you won’t even need to store all your inventory of books. You source books, and then pack up boxes to ship to an Amazon warehouse.
Then Amazon deals with the storage and shipping of your books when customers buy them.
There are actually a surprising number of ways to make money on Amazon, including some most people never think of.
