Do you ever feel like you’re just not getting anything done? That you’re constantly putting things off until later, only to find that later never comes?
That despite your best efforts, you can’t seem to make any headway on the projects that are important to you? If this sounds like you, then you may be struggling with procrastination. This is a widespread problem, but it doesn’t have to control your life.
Procrastination is a huge problem for many people, and it can be tough to break the habit. In this blog post, we will discuss tips for how to stop procrastinating and get things done.

1. Identify Procrastination Triggers

So find someone who will hold you accountable and help keep you on track. This could be a friend, family member, or coach. Just make sure that this person will be supportive and helpful, not critical or judgmental.

It’s essential to take breaks when trying to get work done.
When you’re constantly working, you can quickly become overwhelmed and exhausted.
Breaks help refresh your mind and give you a chance to take a step back from what you’re doing. They also make it easier to focus when you come back to work so you will be less likely to slip into procrastination.

6. Reward Yourself for Completing Tasks
One way to stay motivated is to reward yourself when you complete a task.
For example, if your goal is to finish reading an article, reward yourself by going out for ice cream or watching a few episodes of your favorite show on Netflix!
By knowing you will get a treat after you finish a task you have been putting off, the pull to procrastinate will be less.
Your brain will want the reward more than procrastinating.
7. Don’t Fall in the Comparison Trap
It’s easy to get discouraged when comparing ourselves with our friends or family members who seem to be doing much better than us.
But comparing wastes emotional brain space. If we already have challenges with procrastination, comparing ourselves with others can actually be demotivating.
Instead of focusing on how well they’re doing, try thinking about what makes you unique and special. Remember that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses; just because someone else is good at something doesn’t mean you have to be too.

- Set a timer for 5 minutes or look at the time on your computer or watch
- Make yourself do the thing you are procrastinating about for the 5 minutes
- Don’t talk yourself out of it, don’t let your feelings rule, tell yourself you can do anything for 5 minutes, because you can
- When the timer is up, you have the choice to either stop or keep going
- More often than not, the act of doing will have kick-started your motivation and you will easily want to keep working
