Let’s get to it!

What is an Appointment Setter Job?

An appointment setter job involves a worker either on the phone or online setting up appointments for a business.

There are many different types of appointment setter jobs. You could set appointments for a medical office, appointment setting for real estate offices, large corporations, and even appointment set on social media.

This last one involves lead generation and appointment setting for service-based entrepreneurs like coaches and consultants.

Many of these appointment setting jobs are remote; some are looking for a local candidate.

You are often making outbound calls – from 60-85 calls a day. One posting I saw said the employee would make 100+ calls a day.

Some appointment setters work only through email and social media (DMs).

For most of these positions, you will need your own computer and high-speed internet.

What is Appointment Setter Pay?

According to Glassdoor, the average annual base pay is $31,330 (meaning before commissions). If you add in commissions, this salary can increase by many thousands more per year. The average annual total pay is $48,587 per year in the United States.

Looking at the appointment setter job postings on Glassdoor, there are a big range of pay offers.

Some job openings are paid by a yearly salary ($31K-$47K depending on experience). Others offer a base salary (one was $36K) plus commission (up to thousands per month).

Part-time appointment setting positions or casual work offers hourly wages that vary a lot too. When I recently looked, there were jobs offering $38-$65/hour, and others paying $16-$25/hour.

Is It Hard to Be an Appointment Setter?

That depends!

Appointment setting can be seen as an easy job to get.

There is a low barrier for entry. Many job openings don’t require prior experience in appointment setting. There is usually no minimum education level needed for these flexible work-from-home jobs.

BUT:

If you are a shy introvert who hates being on the phone…

Appointment setting is probably not the job for you.

There are loads of other online jobs that would be a better fit, like these ones:

The title of this post was a bit tongue in cheek. To get (and keep!) almost any job, you can’t be lazy. But if you want a job where you don’t have to think a lot, or get trained for months, or pay a lot for courses/education first, appointment setter jobs could be something to consider.

What 3 Qualities Do You Have as an Appointment Setter?

1. Comfortable with rejection

You will be hung up on. People on the other end of the line will not always be nice to you.

While nobody enjoys this, if you are super sensitive to this kind of behavior, you might want to skip appointment setting jobs.

2. Comfortable on the phone

As mentioned earlier, if you hate being on the phone, and your friends know never to call you only to text you, you might want to pass on appointment setter jobs.

If you answer your phone when it rings (go you!), these jobs might be a good fit.

3. Good with all different kinds of people

Your communication skills are important as an appointment setter.

Good communication involves not just the words you use, but also the tone, volume, inflection, etc. If you are generally a people person, a job as an appointment setter might suit you very well.
