The Best Budgeting Books You’ll Turn to Again and Again

I started reading books on budgeting when I was about 19 years old. I don’t think that’s typical teenage reading material! Lol I also read Cosmopolitan which my mom completely hated. She was much more on board with the personal finance books, though she didn’t read any herself.

Some of the best budgeting books I’ve ever read, and best personal finance books, were actually ones I read back when I was a teenager. I still have some of those same books on money, and I have come back to reread them over the years.

These financial books have helped me run multiple successful businesses, and have inspired me to think about passive income, growing wealth, wants versus needs, my money mindset, and so much more.

I hope you find something in this top 15 list of best budgeting books that inspires you to improve your financial situation.

And these are the best budgeting apps I have found to easily manage your money – check them out!

1. One of the Classic Best Budgeting Books: Rich Dad, Poor Dad

This book is an absolute must for anyone who wants to learn how to manage their finances better.

Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! is one of the best budgeting books I’ve ever read. It also happens to be the world’s best-selling personal finance book. Very easy and fun to read, it is somewhat of an autobiography and a lesson in money management. This is a super accessible book on money, and is one of the best financial books for beginners to start with.

2. Do You Really Need It?: One Question to Free You Financially

In Do You Really Need It, Pierre-Yves McSween, an accountant by training, inspires us to ask one important question before we buy anything: do you really need it?

I love the premise of this budgeting book. This question is one of the questions I regularly ask myself before buying something, and it usually helps me spend less money. (It’s not 100% foolproof – haha – see my pandemic impulse buys!)

This important question will help you curb the habit of spending on things that you don’t really need, which will completely change your life and the amount of money you have.

3. I Will Teach You To Be Rich: No guilt, no excuses – just a 6-week programme that works

Ramit Sethi, the author of a popular personal finance blog in the United States, tells us in this book about his sure-fire way to grow your money and reorganize your finances.

While restructuring your entire financial life in 6 weeks sounds a bit lofty to me, I Will Teach You to Be Rich had me with this sentence:

“Buy all the lattes you want.”

With automating many steps to debt reduction, saving, and investing, Sethi claims you can “spend guilt-free on the things you love.”

Who doesn’t love that?

The Latte Factor: Why You Don’t Have to Be Rich to Live Rich by David Bach is all about the idea that the little, seemingly innocent purchases we make over time, really add up. The author claims that these underlying money beliefs affect our financial well-being, even if we are not aware of these money beliefs.
