Overnight oats are a very satisfying and crazy quick recipe to make. Because you were so clever and planned ahead the night before (you planner you!) you get to enjoy a delicious and healthy breakfast the next day with absolutely no work at all.
I like to use these glass Bodum jars for overnight oats but you can also use mason jars or any container really. If you’re staying home, a bowl will do, but the jars work really well to take your breakfast oats on the go.
This is a healthy frugal recipe…wahoo! Oats are filling, healthy, and cheap. The two biggest ingredients in this overnight oats recipe are oats and milk – both basic and inexpensive. But they are transformed with the addition of a few other ingredients and the magic happens overnight in the fridge. These overnight oats are shockingly good.
Can we just stop for a minute to talk about how delicious these cherry chocolate overnight oats are? Cherries and chocolates are of course super yummy together but this overnight oats recipe turned out even yummier than I imagined they would be in my head. Like they taste like a dessert for breakfast. They would also be great for a healthy snack when the afternoon slump hits. It’s a real thing over here – 3pm is totally snack time.
Quick tips on making this cherry chocolate overnight oats recipe
The almond extract enhances the cherry flavor of these overnight oats but a little goes a long way! I wrote just a drop of almond extract in the recipe because there isn’t even a measurement for it. You just want a tiny bit but it really does help make this overnight oats recipe over the top. It makes this healthy breakfast taste like chocolate covered cherries!
You can easily make this recipe into vegan overnight oats by using any non-dairy milk you love, and using dairy free chocolate chips.
The recipe calls for 0-1 tablespoons of maple syrup. It’s delicious without but tastes more dessert-y with the maple syrup. Your call.
You can use rolled oats, steel cut oats or in a pinch even quick oats if that’s what you have on hand. The overnight oats will be slightly softer if you use quick oats but they will still be good.
I have made this recipe with adding the cherries right away and leaving them overnight and also with adding the cherries the next day. It’s great both ways.
Now that I’ve written so much on what is like the simplest recipe ever…are you ready for like 3 minutes of prep to enjoy a delicious healthy breakfast tomorrow? Let’s make this!
